Many astronomers shun the moon because it is so bright that it makes the entire sky bright and you can’t see dim and distant galaxies. But the Stillwater Stargazers has a group of people that seek to see the moon when seeing the moon is difficult. We call this a Crescent Watch and the goal is to catch a setting moon that is just a few tens of hours past a new moon. It is just a tiny sliver that sets right behind the sun while it is still dusk.

It’s getting harder and harder to view and appreciate the night sky, especially if you live in the eastern United States, which is one of the most light-polluted areas on the planet.
